Speech & Language

The Speech and Language Clinic provides a full range of evaluation and treatment services to individuals across the lifespan with communication and swallowing difficulties. Evaluations are typically conducted by graduate student teams supervised by clinical instructors who are licensed speech-language pathologists. Treatment services are typically provided by supervised graduate students. Clients’ treatment programs are specifically designed to meet their individual needs. Treatment sessions are conducted on an individual or small group basis, one to two times per week. Services can include working with families, caregivers, or other professionals to improve treatment outcomes.

Services Provided

The clinic serves individuals with developmental disabilities, such as language disorder, dyslexia, attention-deficit disorder, intellectual disability, hearing impairment, and cleft palate. Services are also available for individuals with disorders caused by brain injuries or disease, such as aphasia, dementia, Parkinsons disease, traumatic brain injury, and cerebral palsy.

  • Speaking fluency and stuttering
  • Spoken and written language
  • Reading and spelling
  • Social communication
  • Attention, memory, and executive function
  • Voice and nasality
  • Feeding and swallowing
  • Prelinguistic and non-verbal communication
  • Alternative and augmentative communication systems

The clinic also provides elective services to individuals who wish to improve or change their way of communication, including:  

  • Transgender communication
  • Preventive vocal hygiene
  • Professional voice use
  • Business communication
  • Accent/dialect modification
